The second episode of Matlock (2024) was titled Rome, in a Day and was the second episode of the show’s first season. Madeline continues with her plan to expose wrongdoing at Jacobson Moore and helps defend a boy accused of murder. In this podcast Gerry and Iain take the evidence at face value.

Matlock continues her digging in this episode, meeting Mrs Belvin (Patricia Belcher) who runs a tight ship as the office manager at Jacobson Moore. Meanwhile, Olympia’s relationship with Elijah (Eme Ikwuakor) remains on hold as her divorce from Julian waits to be settled. In court, the team have a criminal trial to deal with as young Michael Casey (Brandon Marcel), the nephew of Deirdre Lewis (Alixandrée Claire) – an important class action client – is charged with murder.
Michael’s mother Tera (S. Zylan Brooks) is adamant he could not have committed the crime, so Matlock – along with Sarah and Billy – need to work out what really happened. Evidence from old-timer Autry (Hal Williams) initially seems harmful, but when contrasted with the account of bodega owner Creepy Jimmy (Victor Cruz) and apparently manipulated CCTV footage, the finger soon points at Michael’s friend Charlie (Alejandro Akara).
Just as with the pilot, this episode was directed by Kat Coiro. The writing credit again goes to showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman.
