This week, Charlie moves into an apartment in NYC courtesy of her Good Buddy (Steve Buscemi). In one of the neighbouring apartments are Anne (Lauren Tom) and her granddaughter Maddy (Awkwafina), who are plotting to maintain their rent-controlled benefits for another generation by formalising an adoption.
These plans are disrupted when Anne meets and falls for Kate Forster (Alia Shawkat), who also has designs on the apartment. After Maddy’s death, Charlie speaks with landlord Otto (David Alan Grier), neighbours Noreen (Myra Lucretia Taylor) and Mickey (Paul Douglas Anderson) and Maddy’s friend Ricardo (Angel Rosario Jr) as she tries to find the truth.
This episode was directed by Adamma Ebo. The writers were Tea Ho and Wyatt Cain.
