This week, Charlie takes up work as an extra on a movie, a role that requires her to lie in a coffin and play dead. The setting for the film is a funeral parlour operated by married couple Fred (Giancarlo Esposito) and Greta (Katie Holmes) Finch. When Greta declares her intention to leave Fred and force him to sell the business he has invested his entire life and soul into, he reacts with violence.
After cremating his deceased wife and stashing her remains amongst the film props for removal, it seems Fred will be able to resume his life’s work, but Charlie, along with film worker Tommy Sullivan (Kevin Corrigan) are not persuaded that Greta left of her own volition and decide to dig a little deeper.
This episode was directed by star Natasha Lyonne. The writing credit goes to Lyonne and Alice Ju, who also collaborated on season 1’s The Orpheus Syndrome.
